The Gospel According To John
True Worship
John 4: 15 - 26
18 April 2021
From the beginning, man was created to worship and walk with God, but the fellowship was broken by sin. True worship continues today with a life of obedience to the one true God.
We must worship with a correct understanding of sin. Jesus exposed the Samaritan woman's sin, and she felt her guilt keenly. But without addressing our sin, we cannot understand our need to be reconciled to God.
We must reject all wrong worship. The Samaritan woman thought external practices could atone for sin, and she had the wrong idea about a Messiah. But true worship comes from a heart that loves Jesus Christ for who He is.
We must worship in spirit and in truth. Christ has done away with externals, and requires his worshipers to come to him in honesty, and in the way He prescribes. God's children can call Him Father because they are born again - and because of the Spirit indwelling them, they can worship in spirit and in truth.
