Those who belong to God have an indescribable hunger and thirst for Him. The fourth beatitude in Matthew 5 identifies those who desire righteousness as being part of God's spiritual kingdom.

By God's grace, He transfers some of us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God. The 8 beatitudes describe the pattern of life of all believers - such as meekness.

Jesus gave the sermon on the mount to make clear who were His disciples, because many followed Him for different reasons. In His sermon, Christ promised blessing for true disciples who mourn.

The Sermon on the Mount is about kingdom life. There are two kingdoms - the domain of darkness, and the kingdom of God. Those who are in God's kingdom live in the ways Christ describes in His sermon.
