Under His Wings: God’s Promised Protection
Psalm 91
10 December 2023
How do we as Christians respond to a world that is full of uncertainty and fear? Psalm 91 is the promise that God will protect His children from every danger unless He has wisely and lovingly designed to bring it into their lives.
We see the principle and profession of God's protection (v. 1 - 2). If you have made the Almighty your shelter, then you will be at home with Him. Because God has all power and authority to do as He pleases, you are secure if God chooses to protect you.
We see the biblical exhortation of His protection (v. 3 - 13). God's protection is universal: there is nothing outside of His sovereign care for us. His protection is individual: God will guard us though destruction falls all around us. And His protection is supernatural: nothing bad can happen outside of His will for us.
We see God's affirmation of His protection (v. 14 - 16). God speaks at the end of the psalm, reiterating His promise that whoever calls on Him will be secure. God's grace is the only ground for safety, and not a single danger can harm us outside of God's will.
