The Church is to be Holy
1 Corinthians 5:6 - 13
18 August 2024
God is holy, and therefore His church must be also. God hates evil and loves good - so to please Him, the congregation must too.
Holiness requires the right understanding of sin (v. 6 - 8). A little sin pollutes the whole church. Because it spreads, we should fight it. But in Christ, we are clean and holy - so we should live it out.
Holiness requires the right separation from sin (v. 9 - 11). We are to live differently than the world, but not isolated from it. Speaking truth is bringing light to where we live, but compromise dims our light.
Holiness requires the right actions toward sin (v. 12 - 13). Sometimes, as with the Corinthians, this may involve church discipline. The church must be kept holy for God's name, and with our obedience it can.
