Worldliness in the Church, Part 2
1 Corinthians 3:1 - 4
2 June 2024
Worldliness is focusing affections on this world rather than Christ. The truth is that we can't love both God and the world - and our choices will affect those around us.
Worldly believers exhibit great inconsistency. The Holy Spirit indwells all believers, meaning all believers are spiritual. However, maturity is more than regeneration or even scriptural knowledge - it is obedience to the truth.
Worldly believers have no excuse. The Corinthians church had been taught by Peter, Paul, and Apollos, and yet refused to apply the Word to their lives. As we grow in Christ, our knowledge should deepen to understand the gospel truths in greater richness. But the Corinthians had stagnated - they heard the Word but did not act on it.
Worldly believers cause division in the church. The church should not resemble the world - but she does when the world's methods are esteemed above God's. Because Christianity is relational, our love for God will be evidenced in our obedience towards Him. Is this true of us?
