The root of the division in the Corinthian Church was forgetting the gospel, and replacing it with human wisdom. The wisdom of God is best, bringing peace with God and others.

The wisdom of man divides, because the gospel divides. The cross was seen as humiliation and abasement by Israel - and it is still viewed as folly by the world today. To those who are being saved, we know it is the power of God - but the cross goes against human wisdom.

The wisdom of man leads nowhere. Human wisdom can't bring us peace with God, and the most learned men cannot bring us salvation. Reliance on a fallen world for eternal hope is folly, and cannot substitute for the truth.

The wisdom of God is best. God is a saving God whose wisdom leads to peace with Him. The Jews wanted a political Messiah; gentiles want knowledge. The cross brought neither, but for those who trust in Christ's death and resurrection, fellowship with God is a treasure we have.
