PSALM 94

The Judge of the Earth

We live in a world where the wicked live without a care. They oppress the poor, mistreat the innocent, take advantage of the vulnerable, steal and even kill without consequence. They love their sin and celebrate wickedness. What can the believer do in the midst of an evil world. What can the righteous do when anxious thoughts multiply within them? Psalm 94 gives us the answer.

The psalmist prays to God asking Him how long will the wicked celebrate their iniquity? He prays that God would bring justice to the world. Only the Judge of the earth can avenge His people (94:2-3). The wicked believe foolishly believe that God does not see or care about their actions (94:7-8). God knows the thoughts of a man, and all their thoughts are vain (94:11). Believers, pray that God will return and judge this world of sin.

While praying for God to return and judge the world, know that God gives His people relief in their troubles (94:13). Believers are blessed when they respond to divine discipline and divine truth faithfully (94:12-13). Believers can have an inner calmness and confidence based on their knowledge of God in His word. God will not abandon His people, whom He loves (94:14, 18). Brethren, when you are fearful and anxious, think on the nature of God and His promises to His saints. Thoughts of these truths will give you great comfort in the midst of troubled times (94:19). God is your stronghold, and impregnable rock (94:22). Be encouraged, God will vindicate His people and condemn the wicked (94:23).
