The Lord Reigns!
The main point of this psalm is the everlasting kingship of the Lord. No power in heaven or an earth can compare with His might. God is sovereign over all aspects of His creation, and in the future Christ will rule as King physically from Jerusalem. It is a psalm that prompts God’s people to praise and worship Him. This psalm can be divided into three parts: The Lord Reigns (1-2), The Lord is Mighty (3-4), and The Lord is Holy (5).
The psalmist begins by declaring that “the LORD reigns!” Believers throughout all of history have declared this fact (93:1). He is worthy of praise because His entire nature is great, sovereign, and full of grandeur (93:2). His plans for the earth cannot be thwarted, as they are set firmly in place (93:2). Brethren, give praise to the Lord, for He is the everlasting God (92:2)!
The psalmist contrast the mighty roaring seas with the Lord, and they are found wanting (93:3-4). The seas may rage in the storm, the rivers may flood their banks in a torrent, but the Lord is mightier than the floods. Brethren, let us remember in the storms of life that God is on high (93:4). Though the floods threaten to capsize us, God is still in control and ruling from on high.
The psalmist concludes this psalm by emphasising that God is trustworthy (93:5). His “testimonies,” are His Scriptures that He has given to His people. Brethren, you can trust with certainty all that God has said. Finally, God is absolutely holy. He is unique, and His tabernacle among His people cannot be compared to anything (93:5). God is holy; His people are to be holy, and will be be completely holy when the Lord reigns forevermore!
