Let the Redeemed Praise & Reflect
Do you believe that the Lord is good? How often do you reflect on all the wonderful works He has done in your life? The psalmist, here in Psalm 107 wants us to praise God for His goodness and love, as we reflect on His great works on our behalf.
The psalm begins with a call for believers to praise the Lord for his goodness and faithful love (107:1-3). The “redeemed” are either physically delivered like the nation of Israel, or individually redeemed from the penalty, power, and presence of sin in their lives by God’s grace through faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ.
First, we can see The Wonderful Interventions of the Lord (107:4-32) in the lives of His people. He delivered them from physical death in the wilderness, providing for their physical needs. God saved His people out of their bondage to sin. Humbling them by their hardship, they cried out to God and He heard them. When they rejected the word of God and were afflicted with sickness because of their sin, God heard their cry and saved them. Those at sea were without hope at the stormy waves, and when they cried out God heard them and delivered them. Over and over throughout this section the psalmist calls God’s people to extol His greatness and faithfulness to His chosen people (107:8,15,21,31)
The last section of the psalm speaks of The Wonderful Providence of the Lord (107:33-42). He changes the landscape to punish the wicked and bless the righteous. The upright can discern this and are glad.
The psalmist ends this psalm with a call for those that have wisdom to consider the goodness and faithful love of the Lord in all aspects of their lives (107:43).
