PSALM 28

God Cares for His People

Have you ever been in a difficult situation because of your faith in Christ? If you have not, then you will face opposition at some time in your life. This is a common denominator for all who seek to live for the Lord in this life (2 Tim 3:12). In this psalm David is desperate for God’s help because of his suffering from the ungodly (28:3-4). These people are workers of iniquity and are hypocritical as well (28:4). They speak “peace” with their neighbors all the while evil intent is in their hearts (28:3). David knows that without the LORD he will surely die (28:1).

Like persecuted believers of all time David cries out to his LORD, his rock, for help in the midst of suffering (28:1-2). He prays that God would hear his prayer and not remain silent (28:1). He prays that God would execute judgement on the sin and evil that are around him (28:4-5). David knows that even though it seems like evil is triumphing, God will “tear them down” from their lofty places in judgment (28:5).

This psalm finishes on a positive note. David praises the LORD because he knows that God has heard his cries (28:6). God always listens to the prayers of His people (Jn 9:31). Praise Him for that fact and thank him from your heart (28:6-10). Know that you can trust God in the midst of trying circumstances, He is your defense (28:7-8). He is your help and source of the strength as you persevere in your trial (28:7). He alone is your salvation (28:8). He is your Great Shepherd who carries you in His arms forever (28:9).
