Psalm 119

Why engage in the pursuit of the Bible? Because it is the very word of God. In every verse of Psalm 119, the Psalmist identifies Scripture as something coming from God. Because there is no other way to know God, Scripture is the starting point of understanding.

Pursue the Word of God because it is evidence of being born again (v. 41, 1 Jn. 5:1 - 4). Genuine faith brings passion to read, and to practise the Word.

Pursue the Word of God because it applies to all believers, not just a few. The Law of God is relevant to all believers because it is spoken by God, and because there is no life without the Word.

Pursue the Word of God because it is how Christians mature (v. 98 - 100). Christian maturity is doctrinal purity, and doctrine is simply holding the right truth about God. Doctrine is vital for true worship - otherwise, who are we worshipping?

Pursue the Word of God because Christ is the Word (John 1:1 - 3). Knowing the Word is knowing Jesus; and you can't know Jesus without knowing doctrine.

Pursue the Word of God because it is the only source of joy (v. 1, 160, 165). "How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord."
