The false teachers in Colosse were saying that Christ was not enough. But Paul says that if you do not have the foundation of Christ’s sufficiency, everything else you believe will be on shaky ground.
Jesus Christ is supreme over creation. He is the exact and true representation of God on this earth. He is God and man. He is the firstborn of all creation, meaning the highest rank over all created things. More than that, He is the Creator of everything that was made.
Jesus Christ is pre-existent, and not part of the created order. He is the eternal God, for whom all things was made; and, by His power, everything is sustained.
Christ is all that we need - after all, He is the one who made and sustains us.
