What Christians Pursue
The Pursuit of Freedom
Overview of Galatians
10 March 2019
Because God has set us free in Christ, we are to continually walk in freedom.
The seed of freedom is the gospel (ch. 1). There is only one gospel that saves; the sacred message that comes from God alone. Because of this, we cannot change it without destroying the message.
The soil in which the seed of the gospel grows is faith (ch. 2). We cannot be justified by what we do; only by what we believe. By believing in Jesus Christ, we can be forgiven. This is the grace he shows us, that "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Rom. 5:8).
The root of freedom is salvation (ch. 3 - 4). Like Abraham, we are justified by what we believe. Freedom means to be adopted by God. Salvation is by the grace of God alone, so stand firm in it!
The fruit of freedom is holiness and obedience (ch. 5 - 6). We are only free when we follow Christ.
Titus says, "the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people." Therefore, having received it, let us live in it.
