The Gospel According To John
Real Peace
John 14:27 - 31
08 January 2023
Real peace is not absence of strife. The word "shalom" means the presence and blessing of God even in the midst of trouble.
Christ's peace is real peace. We can only experience peace in our hearts when we have an absolute peace with God. Christ came to reconcile us to the Father, and grant us that absolute peace. We can feel a subjective peace in our hearts when we rest in that truth.
Real peace results in freedom from fear and anxiety. When we do not trust in God and His promises, we naturally become agitated, because we feel we have to control the situation ourselves. God's provision for us is real, and so is the peace we can have by trusting Him.
A lack of consistent love is a hindrance to our peace. When we take our eyes off Christ, the troubles of this world fill our minds. Our love for God can only come from a knowledge of who God is, so in order to love Him more, we must come to know Him more.
