The Gospel According To John
I Am the Resurrection & the Life
John 11:17 - 37
05 June 2022
The pain and heartache of death is real. Jesus sympathized with those who were mourning Lazarus, but came to show them that He is the Resurrection and the Life.
Martha makes a great declaration in the midst of mourning, saying that she knows Jesus to be her Lord and Messiah. She knows He is able to do anything, because Jesus is working with the Father. Whoever believes in Christ will live, even though he die.
Martha makes an honest confession to Jesus. She regretted that He was not there to stop her brother from dying. She did not expect Jesus to resurrect him, and so poured out her heart to him.
It was a troubling situation for all involved, and Jesus Himself sympathized with the suffering. He was sad to see the death and sorrow, and angry against the consequences of sin; but He had come with a mission to resurrect Lazarus. Yes, even in the midst of death, Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life.
