The Gospel According To John
Spiritual Sight
John 9:13 - 34
13 March 2022
Jesus created new eyes in the man who never saw before. Like him, we gain new spiritual sight to see and know Christ when He heals us of sin.
The story is a picture of salvation. None who come to Jesus are turned away; but instead, He welcomes us. The blind man was helpless and sick, nobody could offer him healing until Jesus came. We are much like the blind man.
The story shows a dual effect of truth. The blind man saw Jesus for who He was, and defended Him against the Pharisees. The Pharisees claimed spiritual sight, but failed to see Jesus as He was.
There is a responsibility of the blind. Jesus came to the man and healed him; and a blazing faith awakened in him. As he recognized who it was who performed the miracle, he came to believe in the Son of Man. The Pharisees also saw Jesus' miracles, but rejected Him. We have that same choice today: to believe in, or to reject Christ.
