In Revelation 21, we see the present universe destroyed, and a new one created. While creation is now bound by sin and death, only what is good will enter into the new.
Revelation teaches us that this present world is labelled for destruction, so we shouldn't have our hope here. We are merely pilgrims looking forward to a new heavens and earth where righteousness dwells.
In the new heavens and earth, there will be no sun because God illumines it. The New Jerusalem has been prepared in Heaven as a home for all the saints of God - it is a prepared place for a prepared people. It is our eternal home, and Christ Himself will live among us.
Everything that God wants finished will be done. God started history, and He will finish it according to His sovereign plan. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be ultimately satisfied in the creation of the new heavens and earth.
