Series in Proverbs: Wise in His Eyes
Wisdom's Company
Proverbs 1:8 - 19
27 February 2022
Solomon is writing to pass on wisdom to all who will hear. His proverbs presuppose the reader has the humility to learn, and the willingness to change.
Wisdom bridges the gap between young and old. Because wisdom is grounded in our unchanging God, wisdom reaches beyond our changing times. Godly wisdom inherited from parents is not to be discarded, for it can bring stature, like a wreath around our head.
Solomon writes to warn against the company of sinners. Youth is impressionable; Solomon unmasks the flattery of so-called friends so that we would choose wisely. Wisdom is knowing consequences, and recognising Yahweh's authority.
There is the wise father's way, or the sinners' way; there is no third way, and no loophole. Surround yourself with those who are able to identify evil, learn how to seek spiritual advice, learn to choose your friends with wisdom, and learn to assess your plans in light of God's Word.
