PSALM 31 — REVISED — PART 2

Confidence in God (part 2)

A believer’s confidence in God is demonstrated not in the quiet moments, or their times of worship with other saints; but rather during the tempests of their lives. This trust is born out of a right understanding of God’s nature and His past faithfulness (31:1-4). Confidence in God will grow as we come to a greater understanding of His nature and works through the study of the Scriptures. David continues to demonstrate his confidence in God here in Psalm 31.

Confidence in the LORD is knowing that God will deliver and execute judgment in His timing (31:14-18). Trials and hard circumstance are a part of life that cannot be avoided and will take many forms. In David’s case, he was facing trouble from various adversaries that wanted his downfall. Brethren, all those who seek to live a godly life will be persecuted (2 Tm 3:12). People will slander you, gossip about you, avoid you, and sometimes try to hurt you. You may feel, alone and afraid like David; like a broken vessel that is useless (31:12). This is where the true depth of your faith is demonstrated. Will you say with David the words, “I trust in You, O LORD” (31:14). He will deliver you and His face will shine upon you (31:16). He will judge the wicked at the time of His choosing (31:15-17).

Confidence in the Lord is giving thanks to God and directing others to do so as well (31:19-24). “How great is your goodness which you have stored up for those who fear You” (31:19). God demonstrates His loyal love as He hears His people and protects them (31:20-22). Tell others of His goodness and grace. Brethren, love the Lord, be strong and courageous and and hope in Him (31:23-24).
