PSALM 7

A Prayer to The Righteous God

Many faithful believers throughout time have echoed the prayer of David in Psalm 7. David is greatly afraid of those who would do him harm and needs help from God. If God cannot help him no one can (1). In this psalm David asks God’s help because the wicked are trying devour him like a lion (1-2). He feels all alone and that there is no one to help. Yet David prays to God confident in his integrity. The evil that he faces is not because of his sin (3-5).

David asks God to vindicate him and deliverance him from these unjust attacks (6-11). The Judge of this world knows the heart of both David and the wicked (7-9). David trusts in God as his shield and saviour; knowing that if God does not protect him he has no hope against his adversaries (10). David is sure that God will act on his behalf because God is righteous and cannot abide wickedness (11). God is angry with the ungodly every day!

Yet God is patient with the ungodly, calling them to repent and believe (12). His patience will not last forever and He will judge the wicked of this world (12). God often uses the schemes and devises of the wicked against them, and they fall into their own traps (14-16).

Brethren we can take comfort in the fact that God’s judgment upon the wicked on this world will take place. Do not take matters into your own hands, but instead wait for the Lord to act and pray for those who persecute you. Vengeance is the Lord’s and He will act in His own time (Deut 32:35; Rom 12:19). You can have confidence, like David, that God will vindicate you and judge the ungodly because God is righteous (17).
