PSALM 145

Everyday Praise!

This psalm offers praise to God as an acrostic with each verse beginning with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This psalm is all about giving praise to the Lord for His glorious perfections and mighty works. It begins and ends with a personal declaration by David that he will praise the name of the Lord forever (1,21).

David begins his personal praise with reasons that God should be praised. God is the sovereign King, and is to be praised every day (1-2). God is great, and His greatness is beyond the ability of men to fully comprehend (3).

David then calls upon believers to perpetuate continual praise to God testifying to God’s greatness and faithfulness to subsequent generations (4). David, in staccato like fashion tells believers what they should declare: God’s works, His mighty acts, His glorious majesty, His wonderful works, the power of ships awesome deeds, His great deeds, the fame of His goodness, His righteousness (4-7), and His nature revealed in His word (8-9; Ex 34:6-7).

God’s faithfulness to His people is ever to be remembered and extolled by all of creation (10). God’s people shall declare the glory of God’s kingdom to the world (11-13). God demonstrates His goodness in providing food for every living thing (14-16). God is right in all His ways and actions in all of creation (17). Believers can know that when they call to God in prayer, he hears them and is near to them (18). God fulfils the believer’s desire for Himself and supply His needs and preserves them (19-20). Those that reject His authority have no place in His kingdom (20).

God is faithful to His people and worthy to be praised for His perfections and mighty works. Let us praise His name today and forevermore (21).
