How Blessed Are the People Whose God is the Lord
One temptation for those that follow Christ is to think of their faith as a religion only. Many go through the motions of church attendance, giving, and serving, yet forget that God desires true worshipers who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth (Jn 4:24). Religious works done apart from a loving faith are unacceptable worship to God (Hos 6:6; Isa 1:11-17). Brethren, God loves His people and desires to be the object of their affections above all else (1 Jn 2:15).
In Psalm 144 David speaks of the LORD as his God. He uses the person pronoun “my” seven times in vs 1-2. He has done much in David’s life and elevated him greatly. Yet David understands that man is nothing compared to God, and is awed that Go would even bother to know him (3-4).
In light of his personal faith in the Lord, David prays that God would deliver David from those wicked people that seek to harm him (5-8). Unlike the wicked who speak lies (8), the righteous sing praises to the Lord remembering and extolling His character and past works of salvation (9-10). David personally calls God to act on his behalf (11). He then prays that God would bring blessings upon His people as He has promised in His word if they are faithful (12-14). God’s people are blessed because He is their God (15).
Jesus desires His people to trust Him in the troubling circumstances of life (Jn 14:1). No matter what you face you are blessed. God indwells you, and works in you to make you more like Christ. He has promised that He will come again and take you home to be with Him forever (Jn 14:2-3).
