The Believer and the Providence of God
Solomon focuses on the providence of God in Psalm 127. Everyday activities are meaningless to our spiritual maturity if done apart from acknowledging God and living for His glory (1-2).
A person can labor to build their dream home; yet if built without a thought to God and His glory the building of the house is in vain (1). Brethren, your household must be founded and built upon God and His word if it is to thrive.
Solomon then moves on the the security of the people. Believers must remember that they are not secure and safe because of their labours in building walls and hiring watchmen. The safety and security of believers is found in God alone. Brethren, we must be diligent to do our part, but our ultimate trust is in God to protect us and our families (1).
Seeking after endless wealth by working long days and nights to the neglect of family and church is a life with priorities out of balance (2). Brothers, we are commanded to work and provide for our families (2 Thess 3:10). Brethren, all labor is a collaboration with God. We work hard, while simultaneously acknowledging God’s graciousness and care.
The ultimate illustration of God’s blessing and divine care is in the giving of children (3-5). Children are an inheritance from the Lord, and their lives are to be stewarded to His glory (3). They are a help to the family throughout their lives (4). Like arrows, they are a security to the family. In their youth they help to maintain the family home, and in later years they help to secure their parents in old age. Brethren, if God has given you children, praise Him for His blessings to your family (5).
