The Superiority of God’s Wisdom
What do you love? There is much in this world that vies for affections and competes with our love of Christ. Our love of Jesus is demonstrated in a love for His word (1 John 5:2). It is far superior than all of world’s wisdom.
The psalmist first of all declares that he has No Greater Love than for the Scriptures (97). He thinks upon the truths that he has learned and ways to apply them to his life.
The psalmist continues by declaring that there is No Greater Education than the Scriptures (98-100). He states that God’s word has made him wiser than his enemies, given him more insight than his teachers, and more understanding than the aged. While man’s wisdom constantly changes, the Scriptures are from God and are unchanging. His teachers have educated him in many subjects, and he has learned much; but the wisdom that comes from God applies to all of these areas and is of greater value. Prudence and discretion that come from God’s word doesn’t have to do with age.
The psalmist then declares that there is No Greater Way (101-102). Because of the Scriptures he has learned what pleases God and what is evil. He can discern paths that would lead his affections away from God. God is actively involved in teaching His people through His word by the indwelling Holy Spirit (1 John 2:27).
The psalmist ends with a declaration that he has No Greater Desire (103-104). Believers, do you delight in the word of God, or just read it because it is your duty? When your mind is filled with God’s wisdom, you will have “understanding” and hate all the lies and falsehoods of worldly wisdom (104.)
