Taste and See That the Lord is Good
Life can be tough. There will be times of when you will be emotionally spent, physically drained, and spiritually down. Know that you are not alone in these circumstances. David himself found himself in similar circumstances. Before he became king, he was a fugitive running for his life from King Saul. His situation was hard and his future uncertain, and fear crept into his heart. In his fear he took the giant sword of Goliath from Ahimelech the priest, even though the sword had not helped Goliath (1 Samuel 21:8-9). In his fear he then pretends to be a madman before the king of Gath (1 Sam 21:12-15). He looked exclusively at his circumstances and despaired.
Psalm 34 was written by David at this point in his life after he was driven away from the king of Gath. David says God heard his cry (34:6) & delivered him out of his fear (34:4). He has learned an important lesson through his circumstances, GOD IS GOOD (34:8)! David implores other believers to join him in praising God (34:1-3). He says there is no need to give in to fear because God protects (34:7) & provides (34:10) for His people. David joyfully calls for other saints to “taste and see that the LORD is good.”
Brethren, taste God by acting on your faith, continually seeking of the Lord. Taste, and the result is that you will come to see that God is good. A blessed life (34:8) does not mean a life without trouble. When fear and worry creep into your heart, cry out to the Lord for help, and remember that the God you serve is good.
