PSALM 31

Confidence in God (part 2)

A believer’s confidence in God is demonstrated not in the quite moments of their lives, or their times of worship with other saints; but rather during the tempests of their lives. This trust is born out of a right understanding of God’s nature (31:1-3), and His past faithfulness (31:3-5). Confidence in God can only grow through the study of the Scriptures. “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” (Rom10:17). David continues to demonstrate his confidence in God here in Psalm 31.

Confidence in the LORD is knowing that God will deliver and execute judgment in His timing (31:11-18). Trials and hard circumstance are a part of life that cannot be avoided. What makes matters worse is that there will be times when our misery is compounded by the lack of understanding & sympathy from those around us. They will avoid you, forget you, and even gossip and slander you. You may feel, like David, that you are a broken vessel that is useless (31:11-12). Brethren, you must have faith in the Lord and say with David, “I trust in You, O LORD.” He will deliver you and His face will shine upon you (31:16). He will judge the wicked at the time of His choosing (31:15-17).

Confidence in the Lord is giving thanks to God and directing others to do so as well (31:19-24). “How great is your goodness which you have stored up for those who fear You” (31:19). God demonstrates His loyal love as He hears His people and protects them (31:20-22). Tell others of His goodness and grace. Brethren, love the Lord, be strong and courageous and and hope in Him (31:23-24).
