Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you: Philippians 3:15
Generally speaking, people’s attitudes are driven by what they experience in life. People can have dirty rotten attitudes, because life to them has not ‘been fair’ and their dire circumstances have dictated their negative thinking and how react to life itself.
But I believe the opposite must be true for the believer or those who are “perfect” as our text describes. Our circumstances must never drive and dictate our attitude to life. Our attitude to life - no matter what the circumstances, must never be earthly and negatively focused. Paul gives the model attitude for the believer to emulate, just prior the text cited above: “….forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (3:13-14).
In other words no matter what mistakes we have made, no matter what dire circumstances we have been called to suffer, no matter what material benefits we are stewards of - there must be a ‘ joyful’ (Phil. 3:1) determination to always press on for the prize of the upward call of God. Now folks that kind of spiritual grit is all about attitude! A Holy Spirit born attitude!
A transformed mind (Rom. 12:2) is a transformed attitude. How we need a right attitude, a Christ like attitude to respond to life God’s way.
Charles Swindoll once rightly said - Words can never adequately convey the incredible impact of our attitude toward life. The longer I live the more convinced I become that life is 10 percent what happens to us and 90 percent how we respond to it.
