I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
The beginning of February, as usual, sees us all back into the swing of things at work, school, home and in our church ministries. Achievable plans, ideas and goals have been put in motion so that our employment contracts, school terms, holidays, home life, retirement and church ministries can be productive and effective for another year.
We need to be organized. We need to make plans. We need achievable goals in order to give direction and accountability for our anticipated time ahead.
But our time ahead may be for the rest of the year and beyond, or it may be a month or even less - who knows? So what ought our unpinning and overarching focus be in all our plans for all we do, in our time ahead? In thinking about that, be reminded of what the writer of Proverbs said in ch 19:21 “Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand”. In other words, plan, set goals, strategize all you like, but makes sure you understand that it is the Lord who has the last say and if He so pleases, can intervene and turn our plans on their head - in order to bring about his sovereign purposes! How will we handle the changes, the interruptions, the upsets as we might call them? Note the focus, the overarching and underpinning goal that Paul had governing every facet of his life!
May we learn to be more like Paul who imitated Jesus Christ. D. L. Moody once said “Let God have your life; He can do more with it than you can".
