As for you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are men, and I am your God,” declares the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 34:31
I am fully persuaded that the tyranny of passing time and circumstances, are what often interfere with the Christians true identity. Life with all its ups and downs and time-consuming duties, tend to whittle away and reduce our true identity from being God dependent to being self - dependent. In the rush and bustle of our post - modern lifestyles, we allow ourselves to be robbed of the joy, peace, serenity and stability that is the intended lot for those belonging to God’s flock. Yes - we are sheep, but sheep that are not totally dependent on their shepherd, are kind of sitting on a fence and in the danger of falling and becoming victim of pressurizing time and circumstance. We can move ourselves outside of God’s pasture and be sucked in to providing our own.
That for the Christian is a serious identity crisis. When this happens, we have forgotten that we are but men dependent on our God, and substitute Him with our own autonomous schemes and plans. May we be true sheep of God’s pasture who like C. H. Spurgeon once said - There is no more blessed way of living, than the life of faith based upon a covenant-keeping God – to know that we have no care, for He cares for us; that we need have no fear, except to fear Him; that we need have no troubles, because we have cast our burdens upon the Lord, and are conscience that He will sustain us.
