The Pursuit of Prosperity
Psalm 1

The way we respond to the Psalms determines our ultimate destiny. Psalm 1 is an introduction to the book of Psalms, comparing the prosperity of the righteous against the destruction of the wicked.

The pathways of the righteous avoid the ways of wickedness which lead to ruin. The righteous will be happy because they have known the outcome of the right path.

The pleasures of the righteous are in the Word of God. The person who is blessed seeks happiness in things of God, not of the world.

The practices in God's law points out to us the standard of holiness. The righteous man sets his eyes on this purity as his target.

The righteous is pictured like a tree nourished by water. The person who feeds constantly on the Word of God will be spiritually healthy, and will stand firm. But in the judgement, the wicked will be like chaff blown by the wind.

The spiritual riches of the righteous are in God's Word; it is through the Word that we know Christ.
