Performance Review Of The Churches, Part 5: Sardis
Revelation 3:1-6
3 September 2017
Ultimately, our walk is weighed by Jesus, not by others. The question we must ask of ourselves, and of our church is, 'what would Jesus say of us?"
The church in Sardis had a reputation of being alive, but was dead. Although the external signs suggested health, Christ examined their heart and found it empty. As a church, we must not confuse activity with spiritual life. The core matter is how we walk with God.
The call for Sardis was to wake up, and "strengthen the things that remain... and repent." Although they were spiritually slumbering, not all was lost for them as a church. Unless we are motivated by the love of Christ to serve, our service is also hollow, and does not please Christ.
We are to remember, and keep on remembering Christ and his love in salvation; to 'keep on keeping on.' And when we fall, we are to repent. If we do not, Jesus will come to judge his people. But, like the church in Sardis, Jesus will always have the faithful remaining. The overcomers are those written in the Book of life.
Let us know God, love God, and serve him faithfully as a church.
