Marriage and Divorce
1 Corinthians 7:8 - 16
6 October 2024
First Corinthians teaches us that the body is to be used to serve God - whether in marriage or singleness.
You must practice self-control or marry (v. 8 - 9). Marriage is the norm, and God's way to fulfill desire. It is designed for companionship, but outside of it we must practice purity.
You must love your covenant spouse (v. 10 - 11). God's design for marriage is one man, one woman for life - divorce was not in view. Marriage is a covenant to live together.
You must live in peace with your spouse (v. 12 - 16). Even if one has an unbelieving spouse, the marriage is to remain unless the unbeliever leaves. The unbeliever, and the children receive blessings from the believing spouse.
