PSALM 34 — REVISED— PART 1

Four Reasons to Praise God

The Bible says that God does not change. Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Malachi 3:6, “For I, the LORD, do not change...”. This is especially poignant for the people of God as they seek to praise Him. Last week we saw that we can praise God for His Word and His Sovereign Works. This week we are going to look at two more reasons to praise God.

The 3rd Reason to Praise God is because He is Righteous Ruler (33:13-15). He observes and evaluates all people according to His standard. His standard is perfect righteousness. In fact, the word ”sin” means to miss the mark, or fail to meet this high standard. God knows the thoughts and intentions of the hearts of men and fully understands why they do what they do (33:15). He is their Creator and they cannot escape His judgment. There is forgiveness of our sins through Jesus Christ our Lord (Eph 1:7). Praise be to God that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Rom 8).

The 4th Reason to Praise God is because of His Great Love (33:16-19). When it comes to military action, there is no victory unless God wills it. Human strength and worldly wisdom are not a guarantee of victory over one’s foes (33:16-17). It is the Lord that gives victory over our adversaries. God demonstrates His great love for His people in that He protects and provides for them (33:18-20). Brethren, all those who fear God and hope in Him will not be disappointed (33:18)!

There is true joy for those who trust in Jesus Christ (33:21; Jn 15:11). Rejoice in the Lord and trust in Him! Praise Him for His word, works, righteousness, and love for you (33:22)!
