PSALM 32 — REVISED — PART 2

Sin Will Bring You Low

One things that is consistent in the Scriptures is that sin separates, it always separates. It separates you from your Creator and it separates you from other people. Most people will go to great lengths to hide their sin and to justify their sin; even to the point to deny that the wrong they commit is even sin (1 Jn 1:8). Even believers can be tempted by their flesh and commit gross sin. They can even live in this sin for a while (32:3-4).

It is an aspect of the love of God, that He will not leave His children a continual state of unrepentant sin. He will bring discipline to the believer in order to bring about repentance and a restoration of fellowship (Heb 12:5-6). Instead of the joy that comes from the blessedness of forgiveness (32:1), David groaned as his vitality and joy disappeared (32:3-4). It is God that gives us vitality, peace, and joy. He will remove these in order to bring about an acknowledgment of our sin (32:4). As our joy of life decreases, our energy levels wane, we feel sad, alone, and spiritual down (32:4). This is the sad state of those who refuse to confess their sin and repent.

The remedy for this spiritual depression is to “acknowledge” your sin to God (32:5). Stop trying to hide and justify your lack of obedience and “confess” your transgressions to the LORD (32:5). The truly repentant believer is immediately forgiven by God and the guilt is taken away (32:5; 1 Jn 1:9). David says confess your sin to God while He is prompting you (32:6), lest the time pass you by and you enter into His discipline (Ps 95:7).
