Hear My Prayer When I Cry
Have you ever experienced a time a great trouble? Did those circumstances bring you to your knees? If so, then you can relate to David here in Psalm 86.
David begins by crying out to God for help (86:1-10). David is unable to resist and overcome the source of the distress apart from God’s gracious help (86:2-3). He is persistent in his prayer in his hour of trouble (86:3,7). His cry to God is based upon his faith; he has put his trust in the Lord (86:2). He knows that God is good, forgiving, and loving toward His people; and that there is no one like Him (86:5,10). Brethren in times of trouble call out to God for help knowing that He cares for you.
David’s 2nd plea is a prayer for guidance (86:11-13). In light of the fact that God alone is worthy of worship (86:9-10), David wants to know more about God and His way (86:11). He asks God to teach Him, and he promises to live his life in harmony with the truth. He asks that God would help him to have a single minded devotion to Him. In light of this new understanding of God’s loving-kindness and deliverance from eternal death, he will glorify God forever (86:12-13). Brethren, pray for a greater understanding of God and His will and you will not be disappointed.
David’s 3rd plea is a cry for God’s grace and mercy in response to the arrogant and violent men that have risen up against him (86:14-17). David asks that God show His grace in giving him strength to endure this trial (86:16). Brethren, know that trials are ordained by God for your benefit (Jam 1:2-3). Be encouraged that He will see you through them (86:17).
