As we celebrate Easter Sunday, we can know that the three names of Jesus (Lord Jesus Christ) are affirmed by His resurrection from the dead.
Jesus is our Lord, and most importantly He is THE Lord. The word “Lord” relates to Jesus’ deity and rule over His Church, all creation and ultimately the new creation (Col 1:15-20). His rule over our lives and ultimately the world is based off of His death & resurrection. Christ’s resurrection from the dead substantiates His claim that He is the Son of God (Acts 2:36). The resurrection is the final proof that Jesus is all that He claimed to be. He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev 19:16)!
The name of Jesus was given to Joseph in Matt 1:21, “...you will all His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” His work as Savior is based on both His death and resurrection. “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life” (Rom 5:10).
Christ is the Greek word for Messiah. Jesus is the long promised Messiah of Israel (John 4:25-26). Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection were necessary in order to save His people from their sins, before He could establish a Messianic kingdom. Acts 2:30-32 says that David prophesied about the Messiah’s resurrection. When Jesus was raised from the dead it became the final proof that His claim to be the Christ was true.
Rejoice brethren, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven...by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
