God Alone...
How can believers remain calm during the tumults of life? The answer is found in Psalm 62. David says that he waits in silent confidence for God alone (62:1,5). In fact the the word “alone” begins both 62:1-2 and again in 62:5-6. It is a person’s faith in God alone that gives them the confidence in troubled times. David clarifies exactly what gives him this silent confidence in 62:2. He describes God’s attributes as the basis for his confidence. God alone is the rock. Brethren, it is God who gives us strength and certainty in our faith. We stand upon the Solid Rock of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 10:4). God alone is salvation. It is God’s nature to save. He is compassionate and gracious, full of loving kindness and truth (Ex 34:6-7). God alone is the stronghold. It is God that is mighty and powerful and offers the believer security from the stormy waves of life. God is the one that protects and provides for His people.
Believers remaining calm and steadfast in troubles are an example to those around them (62:8). In living out his trust in God, David calls on all believers to trust in God alone (62:5-8). He instructs the faithful to pour out their hearts to the Lord. Brethren, our trust in God is expressed when we pour out our desires, wishes, hopes, and fears to the Lord honestly and openly. The wicked of this world vainly trust in their ill gotten gains as their “rock” (62:9-10). They take pride in themselves and their accomplishments, yet the wicked are but a “breath,” a puff of cloud, that are nothing compared to God (62:9).
Brethren, God alone has not only the power to save, but the will to save because of His great love (62:11-12).
