PSALM 16

The Goodness of God and the Satisfied Life

The single biggest thing that will kill the joy in your life is dissatisfaction. We try this and we try that, all in the hopes that it is good for us and will give us some measure of relief or pleasure. Truthfully, if you are a believer in Jesus Christ you have everything that you need. David says this himself in Psalm 16:2, “I have no good besides You.” No one or no thing can give you anything that God has not already provided. There is no limit to God’s goodness toward His people. Just like David, we can be totally confident that God will see to our care and happiness (16:8).

Brethren, you must learn to be content with what God has given you. That includes the believers in your life: your husband, your wife, and those in the church. These are the people that God has placed in your life and you must make them your delight (Ps 16:3); not those of this world that live lives of sorrow because of their many idols (16:4).

The remedy for dissatisfaction is thankfulness. You have been given the greatest gift of all...God Himself! If God is your possession (and He is), then He is the constant source of everything that you need in your life. The more that you understand what God has done for you and given you the more thankful you are in your heart. What God has given you is Satisfying and Pleasurable (16:6), you don’t need to look elsewhere. You can rejoice and live securely (16:9), knowing that God is good and He is yours forevermore (16:11).
