WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE?

“For the Lord of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back? Isaiah. 14:27

The above text is in context to the Lord’s historic judgment on the nation of Assyria. The Lord has told Isaiah that, he would “break Assyria in My land, and trample him on My Mountains..” (Is. 14:25)

Then the Lord summarizes. He informs Isaiah of a fundamental truth about who He is in relation to dealing with people, nations and anything in His world.

He says “for” or in other words “after all, I am sovereign over all the affairs of men and the entire world.”

What this tells us today is that the eternal God, who never changes, is still in total control. He is sovereign over the affairs of men, politics, and nations and even right down to our church, including our individual lives.

I take great comfort in that and so should every believer. To depend and know that “the Lord of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?” is a powerful truth to motivate you in life and to have on your side!

Sometimes we loose sight of this truth about our God. Being made in the image of God demands we make plans, which is good and proper, but too often we depend on them too much. Solomon got it right when he said in Proverbs 16:9: “The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” In other words we need understand that making plans for our futures, families, careers, etc, is well and good but at all times those plans are only engaged in a God glorifying manner when we step by step allow the Lord to direct, intervene, and perhaps even halt them.

So, who really is in charge? The Lord is and we dare not try and frustrate His plans for us.
