DISCERNING THE TRUE GOSPEL FROM THE FALSE GOSPEL.

“This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.” 1John 2:25

When we speak of the ‘gospel’ it can connote many things in people’s minds. But when the Christian speaks of the gospel it centres around the good news concerning Jesus Christ. This good news, breathed out by the Holy Spirit of God for certain men of God’s choosing to write down, tells us all we need to know about the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

The biblical ‘gospel’ is vital to understand and believe because if we do not, or we only value a ‘false gospel,’ true forgiveness and our eternal life with God is at stake. The ‘true gospel’ promises that those “in Christ” will receive forgiveness of sin and eternal life (Eph. 1-2)

So, why am I on about this? I bring you attention to this because I see so many ‘false gospels’ being bandied about that I want you to be informed of their danger, so that you can easily discern the true from the false.

One of the present ‘false gospels’ is what we know as the “prosperity gospel.”

It’s a demonic message that is attractive, alluring, appealing and millions love it.

J MacArthur describes this ‘false gospel’ clearly in the quote below.
“The greedy materialism of the prosperity gospel turns the biblical gospel on its head. The true gospel is an offer of salvation from sin and spiritual death. The prosperity gospel ignores those eternal realities and falsely promises deliverance from temporal problems like financial poverty and physical sickness. Jesus called His disciples to abandon all, take up their crosses, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). By contrast, the prosperity gospel offers carnal comforts, earthly riches, and worldly success to millions of desperate people who literally buy into it. Whereas the true gospel centres on the glory of God, the prosperity gospel puts man’s wants and desires front and centre.” [Grace quotes]

Be warned and don’t be sucked into any gospel contrary to Scripture.
