Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Genesis 2:24
No doubt you will be up with America’s latest law, which bans any of its fifty states from outlawing same sex marriage. This new law from the USA Supreme Court is an action that demonstrates the preferences of the majority in the USA.
Right now, the same issue is before our own government. Soon a redefining of the word and meaning of marriage will be voted on in Canberra.
How should we handle this attack on marriage as God originally defined and designed it? Are we to bow to the majority? Are we to ignore the biblical definition of marriage? Are we to get politically active and harass our politicians?
The road ahead will become more difficult, in numerous ways for Bible believing Christians that’s for sure! But do not forget this folks, as J MacArthur recently wrote in a letter to all graduates from Masters Seminary:
The Word of God has pronounced judgment on any nation that would reclassify evil as good, darkness as light, and bitter as sweet (Isaiah 5:20). As a nation, America continues to put herself in the crosshairs of judgment. As a proclaimer of truth, you are responsible for never compromising on these issues. In every way you must stand firm.
There is our answer. Despite the challenges and attacks by culture, or government on the biblical definition of marriage or any other area of biblical truth, our personal call is to stand firm! (Eph. 6:19, Phil. 1:27)
And also remember this - via more words of wisdom from MacArthur’s letter:
Marriage is not the ultimate battleground, and our enemies are not the men and women who seek to destroy it (2 Corinthians 10:4). The battleground is the Gospel. Be careful not to replace patience, love, and prayer with bitterness, hatred, and politics.
May we stand firm in the power of God’s grace in the gospel - for that is what changes men’s hearts and lives for His glory!
