Under The Sun? Or Under The Son? – Series on Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes 7:1-6
Discerning According To The Will of God
22 March 2015
Solomon now takes a second look at wisdom. His conclusion is to fear God and keep His commandments, this applies to every person. Having riches, wealth and honour without using them, according to Solomon, is better to not be born at all! Solomon writes about most of these topics in the book of Proverbs. And whilst they may seem to be disjointed in this passage, Solomon is relating them to very specific themes.
With much wisdom, comes much sorrow. The more knowledge, the more grief — such is life “under the sun” where God is absent from the picture.
In the text before us we see Solomon making a series of ‘better than’ statements, which speak about using discernment regarding the way that we should live; which, of course, is according to the will of God.
