Christ Above All/ Series in Colossians
The Hope of the Gospel
Colossians 1:21-23
7 July 2019
Sin alienates man from God. But our hope is in the gospel of God which has reconciled us back to Him.
Our past state was that of estrangement from God (v. 21). We are born into sin, and love sin in our natural state. We were hostile toward God in our mind, and considered His ways foolish. These thoughts produced evil actions, contrary to holiness.
Our present condition in Christ is reconciliation to God (v. 22). He has reconciled us through His incarnation and death. Christ has taken our sins upon Himself!
Our future destiny is to be holy in God (v. 22). We are set apart for God's own use, and blameless in Christ.
Our present duty is to continue in the faith (v. 23). We are to be beyond reproach before the world, continuing in the great hope of the gospel. We have this hope offered to us today.
