Psalm 119

To say we have regard for something means that we must actually live it out. As Christians then, what is the extent of our regard for the Word of God; and how does God measure it?

We are to live "according to your Word" - a phrase that repeats nineteen times in the psalm. It means to live in accord with God's will and purpose for our lives. A heart that loves God wants to live by his Word.

Goodness and truth are defined by God's Word, not our thought (v. 68). The psalmist prays, "you are good, and do good. Teach me your statutes." God is not bound to someone's standard of goodness, for he himself IS goodness. Because human reason cannot analyze God, we must know him though his revealed Word!

"The sum of your Word is truth. And every one of your righteous ordinances is everlasting" (v. 160). Because God's Word is revelation of himself, how we regard God's Word is essentially how we regard God himself. Who tells us about God? Is it God, or someone else?

God himself regards his Word highly (Ps. 138:2). May we do the same.
