WHERE’S YOUR HOME?

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; Philippians 3:30

Wow! A whole month together with my wife on holiday in NZ has been and gone. But now we are back ‘home’ and these ‘back home’ occasions always remind me of a future, eternal home! Why? Simply this - one day the believer will be ‘home’ forever to be with our Lord and Master Jesus Christ. We will never need holidays from heaven’s abode! We will be eternally secure, safe, protected, sinless, tireless, stress free, worshipful, loving, and all that we were ever designed by God to be for his pleasure and glory! Now, who would ever want a break from that perfect environment? After all heaven is all about perfection in every way!

But is that what we think and anticipate about our heavenly abode? Is our future heavenly ‘home’ so imbedded in our earthly anticipation that the temporary things of this life fall in priority? I like what C.S. Lewis said in his book, Mere Christianity: “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

How true that is. We are made for ‘home,’ which is to be with the Lord. Hence, we must never loose sight of this truth otherwise we will be consumed with the fleeting pleasures and comforts of this world. Alfred Gibbs rightly said, “Unless there is within us, that which is above us, we will soon yield to what is around us.”

May it be, that we anticipate eagerly our eternal home in faith as we wait for our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
